Crab Sandwiches

The Lobster Pot has been using the same supplier CJ Shellfish, Castletown, Portland for 15 years. C J Shellfish are one of only three shellfish companies in England to hold a Gold Food Hygiene Award. All the crab is handpicked and then vacuum packed ready for use.

In Western Europe crab meat is derived primarily from the species Cancer pagurus, a large crab noted for the sweet, delicate flavour of its meat. It is also known as The 'Brown Crab' and the 'Common' or 'Edible Crab'. The best grade of Crab Meat is 'handpicked' - this refers to the method by which the crab has been processed (by hand) and ensures the flavour of the crab meat is unadulterated. By contrast 'machine processed crab' is produced by using water or air to blast the crab meat from the shell which had a detrimental effect on the flavour.

How often to you eat out and pick something really tasty that you will then have to work off in the gym for the next week? The crab sandwich is tasty without the need for gym membership!

The Brown Crab contains two 'grades' of meat: White Meat from the claws and legs is low in fat and high in protein, it has a delicate, sweet flavour. Brown Meat from the body has a higher natural fat content, but is also extremely high in Omega-3, great for brain function.

All our sandwiches are made to order. To make a perfect crab sandwich we only use top quality seeded batch bread (however, white bread is available if preferred), lightly buttered (with butter not margarine). We then spread a generous portion of the brown crab meat over the bread; the white crab meat is then placed on top of the brown meat, and season with pepper and vinegar.

Our sandwiches are placed on a plate and served with a fresh salad garnish ready to be served to the customer.
